Welcome to the website of the FREE project!
In line with the Lisbon strategy and the new objectives of the cohesion policy 2007-2013, the project “From Research to Enterprise” (FREE) intends to contribute to the regional development of Central- Europe through setting up innovation-oriented systems, methodologies and services bridging technical experts, researchers, entrepreneurs and actors in the administrations, policy makers included.
This goal will be pursued by setting up new instruments, actions and skills, facilitating the use of research results by business sector (especially SMEs) as well as to intensify relationships and integration between the sphere of research, innovation promoters and potential users, in a transnational context.
The project will set up a transnational inventory for research bodies by collecting data on research results in the partner regions. Innovation services and technology transfer support systems will be identified. The most suitable cases will be adapted by the partners. Special attention will be given to instruments fitting the needs of SMEs.
Furthermore, a network of “mediators of innovation” will be activated to support the translation of knowledge into innovation. Training modules will be elaborated and trainings will be organized in each region. At last, regional pilot implementation actions will be carried out based on the final results of the project.
FREE had been launched in November 2008 with the participation of 7 partners from 5 regions and will last 32 months with a total budget of 1 832 310 Euros. It is implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
