25 January 2010, at 12.00
Atrium of the object G2 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Maribor, Slovenia

The first of two regional seminars to be organized in Slovenia took place in Maribor. As a meeting between researchers and entrepreneurs, the event had potential to reach two main groups of stakeholders. Moreover, regional and national authorities' representatives were acquainted with the project's objectives and anticipated results.

In the light of seeking synergies and complementarity between projects within Central Europe Programme, we presented also project I3SME, which is oriented more towards economic sector, in particular to SMEs in various sectors, and aims to induce greater level of innovation through competition among enterprises included in benchmarking analysis.

The central part of the programme was the interactive presentation of both projects and the fair of laboratories and institutes. The oppening ceremony introduced the Best Researcher According to Economy for the year 2009 - a title presented by the University of Maribor since 2006. The supporting programme featured a success story by dr. Mark Pleško, director of Cosylab, which is a company founded on public research and is developing control systems for particle accelerators; presentation of Business Angels of Slovenia; interactive workshop on networking skills by Sue Tonks (http://www.suetonks.co.uk/).
